????自打我剛干上汽車(chē)記者這行,，通用公司（General Motors）就開(kāi)始承諾要推出一款與寶馬（BMW）抗衡的車(chē)型,，今年它可能終于要成功了,。雖然ATS是在一個(gè)現(xiàn)有平臺(tái)上打造的，但通用還是在這個(gè)平臺(tái)上設(shè)計(jì)出了一款全新的后輪驅(qū)動(dòng)緊湊車(chē),，而且使用了大量的鋁合金材料以減輕車(chē)重,。ATS的設(shè)計(jì)比早期的凱迪拉克（Cadillacs）更加優(yōu)雅美觀，而且動(dòng)力也很強(qiáng)勁,。對(duì)于寶馬公司來(lái)說(shuō),，生產(chǎn)一款更好的寶馬3系好比要把埃菲爾鐵塔重新設(shè)計(jì)一遍。因?yàn)樗呀?jīng)太完美了,，很難再有什么改進(jìn),。而且如果真的這樣做了，反而可能會(huì)惹惱一些傳統(tǒng)的寶馬車(chē)迷,。

The competition: BMW 3-series

????General Motors has been promising to build a BMW fighter for as long as I have been covering autos, and this year it may finally have succeeded. Whereas the old GM would have recycled an existing platform for this compact luxury sedan, the post-bankruptcy company has created an all-new rear drive setup with generous amounts of aluminum to hold down weight. The design is more elegant and refined than on earlier Cadillacs, and power will be ample. For BMW, making a better 3-series is like redesigning the Eiffel Tower: It is hard to improve on perfection, and you risk offending traditionalists when you try.

Advantage: ATS, for novelty.
